Well, our big brother did anyway!

Sweet Services is our main warehouse located in Frankfort, IL. Almost 6000 square feet of glorious, scrumptious candy! They have been around for more than 40 years- 10 times Southwest Candy’s age! So I suppose those old timers deserve some props. Retail Confectioner Magazine did a fabulous write-up on our main hub for the month of February, and fabulous was it ever. The article tells the success story of long-time entrepreneur, Alan Clements. Alan started his company in his garage, and he watched it grow, and grow, and then (as Vice President Pete Chronos would say), he watched it go “gangbusters” once the internet hit!

I can’t believe how quickly times flies. Here we are enjoying the treats of Valentines, with our chocolates, roses, flashy jewelry and now I have to quickly get ready for the white furry bunny. NO WORRIES. Southwest Candy is

do it without me, I’m a wonderful person…blah blah blah,,,I’m admitting that
there is another love in my life, I LOVE CHOCOLATE no doubt about it. Not
discounting how much I love him, all that he has done for me, what he has done
for our family, unconditionally, HOWEVER let me repeat I LOVE CHOCOLATE and
because it’s the Love Month, I feel obliged to scream it from the roof tops,
and not have people think I’m totally whacked and going to jump off that roof
top!

And the chemical scientific thing it does to one, well, maybe that
explains my inexplicable urges, but I still think I’m totally normal! Whether
is chocolateand peanut butter cups, or those pesky little juniormints with buttered popcorn at the movies, or the chocolate that they named after a bird for what I don’t know, but still love their dark chocolates, it all comes down to I LOVE CHOCOLATE.

Well we are getting creative in our warehouse and you need to stay tuned. This blog is going to talk about Atkins blue ice mints.  We have a great old fashioned glass jar, the height is approximately 7.75″, and the Diameter is 7.5;  We filled this jar with 3lbs of the blue squares which come out to 165 pieces: 

We have another brand called Primrose Blue Mints . They are the same size slight color change but still the same size and dimensions. Just a different brand.

Anyone on the New Year’s Eve train? I think I live on it! For some reason, I have always looked forward to partying on New Year’s Eve. Such fond memories include: 

1998- my friends and I left our winter coats in the car so we didn’t have to bring them into The Rainbow Room- downtown Chicago. Someone came along and broke the window and stole our coats. We had to drive back to the suburbs sitting in shattered glass and freezing on the expressway. 

1999- freezing again in Chicago! My friends and I had to stand on a street corner waiting for a bus to take us to back to Midway Airport b/c the “L” shut down before midnight. I was in platform heels and a dress. MISERABLE

2000- played it smart at a friend’s house, but watched as the ball dropped in NYC and hoped the tv didn’t blow up b/c of Y2K!

After that I continued to party more moderately, and stick to friends’ homes rather than downtown Chicago nightlife.  So as this glorious party night of all nights approaches- what are your plans?

We are having a huge party, and I was thinking of having a raffle every hour with a prize for one of the attendees. Also! Having a  New Year’s Resolution Table where people write down their resolutions on a piece of paper and seal it in a self-addressed envelope. I will then mail the letters back to them in 6 months to make sure they are on track.

An essential item to any party these days is a candy table. While we all feel like we are going into sugar shock from Christmas cookies, it is a great way to end the year!
