Ferrara Pan Rocks Chicago’s Sweets & Snacks Expo

Do the names Lemonhead, Atomic Fireball, Jaw Buster, Red Hots, and Boston Baked Beans sound familiar? Ferrara Pan- manufacturer of these nostalgic candies, hosted a rockin' party at Fulton's on the River in downtown Chicago yesterday.
As if munching around at The Sweets and Snacks Expo wasn't enough, personal customers of Ferrara Pan were hosted at an off the hook dinner party complete with a Blues Brothers impersonation band for the entertainment! And there to see it was the one and only Southwest Candy Undercover Boss- Al Clements. To remember the evening, our Undercover Boss and fellow guests were all given black hats and sunglasses as party favors.
Thank you Ferrara Pan for making the Sweets & Snacks Expo something to really remember!

Close your eyes and imagine a place where you can sample all the candy you want, AND go home with a bag of candy that you can fill until you can't fit anymore- welcome to Chicago's All Candy Expo. Its new name, is The Sweets & Snacks Expo- I guess they have expanded beyond just candy these days. Perhaps it is a way of giving savory treats some publicity? I'm down with that- salty foods need props too.
All the big name brands (to name a few): Jelly Belly, Tootsie Roll, Wrigley, Nestle, Hershey, Spangler, Charms, Brach, Farley & Sathers- they will all be there ready to impress the distributors with mouth-watering new candy lines. I remember going there as a kid and I was so excited to sample Reeses' Nutrageous before it even set foot out on the market!
So if you are a bulk candy/snacks distributor, a vending machine owner, or you're just plain lucky enough to get hooked up with a pass to go to the show, here is some advice before you go:
1- If you are a diabetic, bring some insulin!
2- Eat your protein for breakfast because it is carbohydrate city once you walk through the doors!
3- It wouldn't hurt to get in an early workout prior to going- it'll make you feel less guilty when you go home with a belly ache.
4- Bring a Tide Pen. You might get a chocolate stain on your clothes from sampling!
5- Bring the largest purse you have in your closet- might I recommend a Louis Vuitton Speedy 35?

My beautiful North Scottsdale, AZ home is on the market. I have researched all the important "to dos" when getting your home ready to sell and I have come up with one idea that the experts have missed….CANDY!
Lose the cookies and the soft music- let's talk Tootsie Pops, Jelly Beans (individually wrapped of course), Riesens (because everyone loves chocolate and caramel), and perhaps even Bit-O-Honey. Using wholesale candy as a marketing tool is a great idea to make shoppers happy.
The Bulk Tootsie Pop- this says, "Come in, stroll around, take your time and enjoy your lollipop while you contemplate how wonderful your life will be once you buy this house!"
The Jelly Belly Jelly Bean- this little treat tells your home buyer, "Look at how beautiful this home is! Enjoy some lovely little jelly beans as you peruse the house and decide how you will decorate it when you move in."
Riesens- chocolate is always a great handout. It says to people, "Greetings future homeowner! Indulge your tastebuds in chewy, chocolate caramel as you indulge yourself by picturing your family in this lovely new home!"
Last, but not least, the Bit-O-Honey- a taste of childhood memories will encourage people to buy, buy, buy!
So give candy a shot at luring in the crowds. The offer you have been waiting for is just a Tootsie Roll away!
