Caramel- the heart warming candy

I love this time of the year! It brings me back to the east with
falling leaves, the smell of fires burning at night in the cool air, hot cocoa,
or hot apple cider, pumpkins, family dinners, college football games, sweatshirts,
warm fuzzy socks. It is all such great memories that I could never forget. I’m
starting to plan for the family feast “Thanksgiving” and that means I
get to have some fun in the kitchen and enjoy it! Homemade this and that,
cookies, pies, treats, breads, to fill the kitchen up with all the recipe articles
that I have been ripping out from the tons of magazines that I have been saving.
Thinking, “I could make that”, “that looks pretty simple and
sweet”

ok so I’m no Martha Stewart but I’m definitely going to give it the
ole college try! So now I have to find that darn apron, I have to at least look
the part!

It’s Thanksgiving Time Again!

What is Thanksgiving time like at your house?  Well, I'm happy to say that I just learned my husbands favorite holiday is Thanksgiving at my parents house!  I was very happy and shocked to hear that actually.  But as I started thinking about it we do have a pretty fun Turkey Day every year!

Last year it was even better when my sister came up with the brilliant idea to get a bouncy house for all the kids!  That kept them busy and happy while we got everything ready for the big feast!  So while the kids are bouncing and the mom's are cooking….the husband's are watching football and snacking on yummy appitizers scattered around the house!  It really isn't a sexist thing…our husbands are just not allowed in the kitchen after an incident a few years ago:)  So I guess that is why my husband loves Thanksgiving so much at my parents house.  It's simply all about yummy food, football and family!

This year I am going to sweeten the deal with some special candy for the occassion!  They don't know it yet but with the great chocolates from Southwest Candy, I am going to leave some treats around for everyone to enjoy!  Maybe some Andes Creme de Menthe, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Charelston Chews for those of us who remember the 70's!  And I can have a lot of fun with our Orange Whirly Pops and Brown Whirly Pops!  Maybe use them on the plates or with the napkin holders.  Lots to think about!  But I know everyone will be very happy with whatever I choose!

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!  It's never to early to start planning for your own family feast!

Candy Pie

Candy-bar-pie-l
What do we do with our left over Halloween candy….or in our house, the candy that I have slowly taken out of the kids pumpkin’s so they don’t notice their stash is getting smaller and smaller!  I found a great recipe online for Candy Pie!   It sounds so fun to make and would be great with Thanksgiving dinner too!  This recipe is quick and easy since it uses a store bought pie crust!  Feel free to substitute with a homemade crust too!

What you will need!

  •  40 pieces Mini Sized Candy Bars (of Your Choice)
  • Store bought pie crust

Preparation Instructions

Fill pie crust with whatever mix of candy suits you. It seems that a chocolate-heavy mix tasted best.  A good mix could be Snickers, Malted Milk Balls, Hershey’s Chocolate Bars, Nestle Crunch Bars, Milky Way, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and M&Ms. Don’t be afraid to fill it to the top, as the candy will flatten out as it melts.

Bake in a 350°F oven for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the candy is melted and the crust is golden. The time may vary depending on your candy mixture. Once you remove it from the oven, let it cool for at least an hour so that the filling can set.

Cut, serve and get your sweet tooth on!  My suggestion would be serving with homemade whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream would make this even more scrumptious- you gotta cut the chocolate with a cream!

Thanksgiving Place Cards

So Halloween is over and the kids are just about down from their sugar high, but no rest for the weary!  We have officially entered Holiday Season!   I was just having the debate with my sister about how to fit our ever expanding family into our mother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner and the topic of place cards came up.  As I usually do I went walking around Southwest Candy to find a new way to change up the old tradition of boring place cards.  We have so many adorable Gourmet Lollipops that would look great with a place card tied to them.  Check out our Twinkle Star, Swirl, Butterfly and Flower Pops!  You can be hip with the kids with our Groovy Flower and Fruit Pops too!  Don’t forget the amazing Whirly Pops that will add great color to any Turkey Dinner!  So the seating arrangements may be a bit stressful, but once your family and friends see the fun and happiness attached to their name they will know it is going to be a very fun and memorable meal!

More Thanksgiving Jokes

Out smart Uncle Al by throwing one of these his way:

Asked to write a composition entitled, "What I'm thankful for on Thanksgiving," a student wrote,

"I am thankful that I'm not a turkey."
—————————————————————————-

A turkey farmer was always experimenting with breeding to perfect a better turkey. His family was fond of

the leg portion for dinner and there were never enough legs for everyone. After many frustrating attempts,

the farmer was relating the results of his efforts to his friends at the general store get together. "Well I

finally did it! I bred a turkey that has 6 legs!"

They all asked the farmer how it tasted.

"I don't know" said the farmer. "I never could catch the darn thing!"

The pro football team had just finished their daily practice session when a large turkey came strutting onto

the field. While the players gazed in amazement, the turkey walked up to the head coach and demanded

a tryout. Everyone stared in silence as the turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the

defensive line. When the turkey returned to the sidelines, the coach shouted, "You're terrific!!! Sign up for

the season, and I'll see to it that you get a huge bonus." "Forget the bonus," the turkey said, "All I want to

know is, does the season go past Thanksgiving Day?"
