Parents! Let me shout that again, PARENTS!! Are you so tired of wasting your money on going out to dinner with your kids, and hoping for the small possibility of a semi-enjoyable evening?
You are not asking for the moon and stars. You just want to eat somewhere other than your kitchen or backyard, right? You want someone else to do the cooking for you, right? Yet, the fear that builds up inside of you as you enter the confinds of a, dare I say it, RESTAURANT, can be so overwhelming you ask yourself, “Why, oh why do I bother?”
Let us help you! We are mothers over here at Southwest Candy. We are also women who want to DINE OUT for goodness sake! Husbands hear our cries! We have solved the problem for you! ENTER…. THE LOLLIPOP!
Viewing Exhibit A:
Here sits a darling little girl. Gorgeous big brown eyes hypnotizing anyone who comes into contact with her. She smiles- even more intoxicating. Now you are under her spell. You are getting messages to the brain saying, “I am adorable. I am a good girl. Please take me out and show me off. I promise I will behave. You KNOW you want to get out of the house!”
You are suddenly taken over by these hypnotic messages. You round up the troops, call your husband to meet you at the restaurant, and BAM! You find yourself in a panic as the kids become restless, and those damn crayons and coloring pages are not entertaining anyone but the other customers who were hit in the back of the head with them.
Suddenly, you remember your secret weapon. You ordered from Southwest Candy, and you armed yourself with LOLLIPOPS! Mini Tootsie Pops, Dum Dums, Charms Mini Pops, and even Dr. John’s Sugar Free Lollpops are all options for you- you have a very large purse! Just as the waitress carries over your glass of chardonnay, you pop a lollipop in each childs’ mouth. Ahhh….. cocktails and dreams baby!
Viewing Exhibit B:
Did someone say, “Road Trip?” In the past, they may have been a pipe dream for you and your screaming family of hellions. UNTIL NOW. Tootsie Pops, Blow Pops, Caramel Apple Pops, Big Slice Pops, heck, give Whirly Pops a shot! These are all lollipops that last, and last, and last. Great for road trips when your kids are constantly asking, “Are we there yet?”
Step one- use them as a prize. “If you behave until we get to grandma’s house, you get a lollipop!”
Step two- use them as a threat. “Oh no, you are not going to get your lollipop if you keep it up!”
Step three- use as a muzzle. “Put this in your mouth, and I don’t want to hear a word until we get to grandma’s!”
Let Southwest Candy help you manage your children. We understand what it takes to have peace, quiet, and sanity. Do not underestimate the power of being the mom with a lollipop in her purse. YOU are in control. YOU are the boss. YOUR children will LISTEN!
It’s time for rainbows, gold coins, shamrocks, corned beef, and green beer! HOWEVER, let’s not forget the candy! At Southwest Candy, we never forget the candy! And our amazing selection of St. Patrick’s Day candy is hard to pass up!
We have also been looking for a lot of different ways to decorate and we came up with a really fun rainbow of candy colors for your decorations.
We used 1 lb of sixlets, 1 lb honeycombs, 1 lb of sanded lemon candies and topped it all off with 1 lb of blue mints! But if you’re not into that kind of rainbow you could always try the licorice .
If you’re looking for the pot of chocolate gold for the end of that rainbow, we definitely have that too! Gold coins, chocolate Tootsie Rolls, Gold Sixlet Chocolate Balls, Werther’s candy in metallic gold wrappers! The list goes on and on! Check us out!
I love this time of the year! It brings me back to the east with falling leaves, the smell of fires burning at night in the cool air, hot cocoa, or hot apple cider, pumpkins, family dinners, college football games, sweatshirts, warm fuzzy socks. It is all such great memories that I could never forget. I’m starting to plan for the family feast “Thanksgiving” and that means I get to have some fun in the kitchen and enjoy it! Homemade this and that, cookies, pies, treats, breads, to fill the kitchen up with all the recipe articles that I have been ripping out from the tons of magazines that I have been saving. Thinking, “I could make that”, “that looks pretty simple and sweet”
ok so I’m no Martha Stewart but I’m definitely going to give it the ole college try! So now I have to find that darn apron, I have to at least look the part!
It’s time to start pulling out the sweatshirts, warm socks, sweatpants and plenty of candy dishes. “Candy Dishes?” you ask, well yes because when I get all comfy, i.e. warm fuzzy socks, sweatshirt and hot drink I need my sweets close by. I mean really who can’t go without a little peppermint candy, chewy caramel, dark chocolate covered cherries or an everlasting tootsie roll pop. They go so great with a good book don’t they?
What is Thanksgiving time like at your house? Well, I'm happy to say that I just learned my husbands favorite holiday is Thanksgiving at my parents house! I was very happy and shocked to hear that actually. But as I started thinking about it we do have a pretty fun Turkey Day every year!
Last year it was even better when my sister came up with the brilliant idea to get a bouncy house for all the kids! That kept them busy and happy while we got everything ready for the big feast! So while the kids are bouncing and the mom's are cooking….the husband's are watching football and snacking on yummy appitizers scattered around the house! It really isn't a sexist thing…our husbands are just not allowed in the kitchen after an incident a few years ago:) So I guess that is why my husband loves Thanksgiving so much at my parents house. It's simply all about yummy food, football and family!
This year I am going to sweeten the deal with some special candy for the occassion! They don't know it yet but with the great chocolates from Southwest Candy, I am going to leave some treats around for everyone to enjoy! Maybe some Andes Creme de Menthe, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Charelston Chews for those of us who remember the 70's! And I can have a lot of fun with our Orange Whirly Pops and Brown Whirly Pops! Maybe use them on the plates or with the napkin holders. Lots to think about! But I know everyone will be very happy with whatever I choose!
Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! It's never to early to start planning for your own family feast!

Now in order to give you the most accurate description of this great new flavor I have taken on the difficult job of being the first around Southwest Candy to try these new little gems! They are absolutely delicious! They taste exactly like Green Apple should. A bit sour and a prefect combination with the always amazing Tootsie Roll Center! Remember, these are available for a limited time only! Order before they are all gone! Or before I eat them all!
We all know candy is delicious to eat, but how did some of them get their strange names? Take a peek to find out about the the history of candy names!! Ooohhhhhh!
Life Savers – In 1912, a man named Clarence Crane realized that the sale of candy in the summer didn’t do very well because the soft chocolate always seemed to melt.
So Clarence Crane invented a better “summer candy” that wouldn’t melt. At this time, ships were starting to use round life preservers, and Crane’s new little mints were round and had holes in them, so he thought a clever name for his new summer candy would be “Crane’s Peppermint Life Savers” His Pep-O-Mint flavor was the first to arrive on the scene. It wasn’t until 1924 that he started making fruit flavored ones, but they were solid discs with no holes in the middle. Finally in 1929, the fruit flavored ones started to have holes and by 1935, the five flavors that we know and love today were added to form the Five Flavor Life Savers Roll.
Milk Duds – When the first Milk Duds were made in 1928, the idea was to make them perfectly round. No matter how hard the manufacturer tried, they couldn’t make them round so they decided to call them duds. The milk part comes from the large amount of milk they use to make this delicious candy.
Tootsie Rolls -The Tootsie Roll was invented by Leo Hirshfield in 1896. He named the candy after his 5 year old daughter whose nickname was Tootsie.
M&M’s – The name comes from the last name of the two founders. Mars and Murrie.
Snickers – Snickers was named after the Mars family’s favorite horse.
Just a bit of trivia to impress your friends with at your next party!
When Leo Hirschfield created the Tootsie Roll back in 1896, he probably didn’t realize the impact he was going to have on the confectionary world. With the variety of sizes and flavors, and an ever-changing market to satisfy, the Tootsie Roll is one candy that will always remain a reliably chewy and well-loved.
